The Med Summit
About the Event
The Med Summit is your way to enter a simulated care environment where you are a doctor, trying to help the patient in front of you! The participants are of three kinds:
Head Doctors: They are responsible for coming up with the disease the patient has, the diseases that they want the Junior Doctors to look at, and writing the specialty guide
Junior Doctors: The students who will have to work together to actually solve the case and save the patient
Patients: There is one patient per specialty, and volunteers will play the role. They will known their own history and symptoms, but won't know what their disease is.
How does it work?
7 students will work together as a team of junior doctors to help treat the patient that they receive, in 3 different specialisations. They will be given a guide with general information about the specialty, as well as 3 diseases that they must do in-depth research about. On the day of the conference, they will be given a patient, and they will have to take the patient history and ask relevant questions to find out exactly what is going on. After that, they will have to settle on the appropriate diagnosis and course of treatment for the patient.
What is the goal?
Each room will have 2 head doctors to help the junior doctors stay on track. They are the only ones in the room who know what the real diagnosis for the patient is. The head doctors will have to keep track of the progress and provide updates accordingly: if the junior doctors settle on an incorrect diagnosis and prescribe the wrong treatment, the patient’s health will worsen. If they do it correctly, the patient will improve. The goal of the simulation is to ensure that the patient gets discharged from the hospital after successful treatment.
